Thirty-two homeowners completed applications for the Voluntary Residential Sound Insulation Pilot Program. The goal of this Pilot Program is to assist in the development of a Noise Mitigation Plan. The Pilot Program is designed to reduce aircraft-generated noise in homes within Federal Aviation Administration designated areas surrounding the airport.

Pilot Program staff and construction experts have started home assessments. They will recommend acoustical improvements to the home owner. These improvements may include the installation of sound insulation and upgrades.

In April, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners directed the Aviation Department to forward the Proposed Draft Noise Mitigation Plan to the City of Dania Beach. View the Draft Noise Mitigation Plan.

For additional information, go to the Pilot Programís web site. You can also visit the Pilot Program Outreach Center located at 200 Dania Beach Boulevard, Suite 100, Dania Beach, Florida 33004 or call 954-924-2224.

New Image.JPGThe Broward Cultural Divisionís Public Art & Design Program is proud to announce the completion of the 2010 update of the Public Art Master Plan. This Master Plan is designed to direct the development of the Public Art & Design Program at the airport.† It will also identify future opportunities to guide the public art portfolio for one of South Floridaís prominent gateways to the world.

A public art master plan was created in 2005 by artist Noel Harding and a multidisciplinary team with expertise in public art and design. The plan evaluated the potential for creating integrated and site-specific artworks.

Since the completion of the 2005 plan, the airport has modified its development plans significantly. Noel Harding was commissioned to update the public art master plan to reflect future changes, identify new public art opportunities, and incorporate the airportís focus on green building.

rsz_1rsz_katherine_allenThe Broward County Cultural Divisionís Public Art and Design Program opened the exhibition Painted Garden, by artist Katherine K. Allen, at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport earlier this month. The exhibition in the Lee Wagener Art Gallery, located at Terminal 2, Departure Level, will run through September 2010.

Painted Garden is a selection of works from Allen's Garden Series. These lyrical botanical abstractions are created with paint, and print and stitch to bring freshness to the ancient form of landscape painting. The use of living plant materials from her tropical garden is an integral part of Allenís creative process. The experience of growing and nurturing these plants is as important to the artwork's meaning as is painting and stitching the final composition. Her goal is to create artworks that stimulate memory, evoke emotion, and communicate the importance of co-existence in harmony with nature.

The Lee Wagener Art Gallery offers Broward County artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in a prominent, high-traffic area in Terminal 2 that is accessible to the public. Artists are selected through the Public Art & Design Program and exhibits are changed every four months. The far end of the gallery has been reserved for the exhibition of video artworks from Broward Countyís permanent art collection. At present, Tree-Rain, by Broward-based artists Suzanne Scherer and Pavel Ouporov, has been installed as the permanent video artwork.
