Broward County Sheriff's Office

Overview

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) welcomed over 35 million travelers in 2023, up from 31.7 million in 2022, and employs more than 15,700 individuals. The Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) contracts with the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) to provide law enforcement services at the airport. The primary mission of BSO's International Airport District is to ensure that all airport passengers and tenants have a safe, secure, efficient and pleasant experience. Moreover, the Airport District is responsible for acting as a liaison between airport tenants, BCAD, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

BSO assists with aircraft and other incidents; prevents and investigates criminal activity; provides visible patrols in terminal buildings, traffic, and parking enforcement; and helps motorists and travelers. BSO deploys four specialized units within the airport:

The Explosive Detection Canine Unit (EDCU)
The Incident Containment Team (ICT)
Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU)
The Motorcycle Unit

The EDCU responds to all unattended items at the airport, conducts random vehicle sweeps, and screens commercial cargo. The ICT unit mitigates and contains critical incidents and provides dignitary protection. The CIU investigates all reported crimes at FLL and presents cases to the State Attorney's Office. The Motorcycle Unit enforces traffic laws and investigates traffic accidents. The district works closely with airport partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), on compliance and investigative matters.

Report suspicious events, persons, crimes, etc.,  at the airport to BSO at:
