Janet Rogers, in this total abstract painting with the medium of oil encaustic on paper, evoked a sense of first hint of light from a complete darkness. She slowly built up a velvety volume of blackness, full of nuances of deep purple and magenta. Light seems to barely perceived. This wonderful painting is installed at the Port Administration building and viewing is by appointment only.
"The medium of oil encaustic and the expressionistic brush strokes layer the colors from a limited palette. This technique gives the paintings a luminous quality. As the viewer changes positions or the light in a room changes, so do the paintings. In this sense, the works are alive; they participate in their environment."
