Purpose:
The Hollywood Historical Society, founded in 1974 by Hollywood pioneers, is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and disseminating information regarding the history of the city founded by J. W. Young. Our mission is to gather and preserve historical resources and landmarks in Hollywood; to acquire Hollywood artifacts and data; to educate and encourage public awareness of Hollywood’s history; and to pass on an enduring community to succeeding generations.

Projects:
Continue to maintain, expand and upgrade our extensive archive of photographs, historical documents, oral histories, correspondence, yearbooks, etc., dating from 1920 to the present; publish a quarterly newsletter for members, and related publications; carry out historical research; maintain the Hammerstein house (designed by Bayard Lukens, 1935) and provide guided tours; recognize historic people, sites and buildings and place bronze plaques on properties conforming with Broward County Historical Commissions criteria; and provide a representative on Hollywood City Historical Preservation Board. Open house Sundays, October – May, 2 – 4 p.m. or by appointment.
