Brand Drugs Going Generic

The following brand drugs will have a generic equivalent on the market in January 2013. Once the generic is available, members that are currently using any of the below medications will automatically receive the new generic on their next prescription refill.

DILANTIN INFATABS	phenytoin	50 mg chewable tablets
LAMICTAL XR	lamotrigine	from 25 to 300 mg extended-release tablets
LYSTEDA	tranexamic acid	650 mg tablets
CONCERTA	methylphenidate hydrochloride	27 mg, 36 mg, & 54 mg extended-release tablets
MAXALT	rizatriptan benzoate	5 mg & 10 mg tablets
MAXALT MLT	rizatriptan benzoate	5 mg & 10 mg orally disintegrating tablets

If the prescribing physician feels there is a medical necessity for the member to continue the use of the brand medication, the member will need to obtain a new prescription with physician instructions to “Dispense As Written” prior to refilling.
