Happy Labor Day!! Whether you are a NASCAR enthusiast, just happy to have the children back in school or a sports fan, it is just nice to have an extra day to enjoy the weekend. However you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a relaxing and wonderful weekend.
SAVE ON PRESCRIPTIONS!
All County residents qualify, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. Broward County residents who already use NACo Prescription Drug Discount Cards saved nearly $600,000 over the retail cost of prescription medications in 2010. Nearly 1,400 residents used the card each month and presented more than 16,000 times. Cardholders can save on pet prescriptions too!
Cards are free and can be picked up at many Broward County government facilities, including parks, libraries, transit facilities, the downtown Governmental Center and Family Success Centers. For more information, call toll free 1-877-321-2652 or Broward County Health Care Services at 954-357-5385.
The Broward County Commission has initiated the process for preparing a new Broward County Commission district map based upon the recently released 2010 Census data. Since the 2000 Census, the population has shifted dramatically among the nine districts.
In general, the population in the eastern Commission districts has dropped, while the population in the southwestern districts has increased significantly. In District 6, the 2010 population was 186,116, or 2.6% less than the average district population of 194,229. The 2011 redistricting effort will change the district boundaries to make them more even and will provide for extensive public participation, including public workshops, public hearings, and a process to submit maps for Commission consideration. Beginning in September, five workshops are scheduled though out the county. On October 3, a workshop is scheduled at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, Mangrove Hall, 751 Sheridan Street in Hollywood from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more information please call 954-357-6602 or visit www.broward.org/redistricting.
Food donations are very low during the summer months, so please contribute to Broward’s 365 Food Drive. Since the year round food drive began in January 2009, nearly 16,000 pounds of food has been collected and distributed to local food banks. Collection boxes are at county government buildings and libraries. Thanks to all for your continued generosity.
A reminder that on September 13 and 27 beginning at 5:01 p.m., public hearings on the proposed FY 2012 County budget will be held. These Public Hearings will be televised.
