District 8 Road Improvement Projects

Pembroke Road Overpass
On Saturday, September 17, 2016, we had a very successful opening of the Pembroke Road Overpass. This project is a reality because of some very hard working staff members of FDOT, Broward County, City of Pembroke Pines, and the City of Miramar. The walk, bike, run benefitting Joe DiMaggio's Children Hospital was a success with nearly 300 participants! From the minute we opened the Overpass, Residents have utilized the road and it has helped alleviate traffic off of Miramar Parkway and Pines Blvd. This project took a very long time to come to fruition. Lots of sacrifices and hard work from the time I served on the Miramar Commission to now as Vice-Mayor of Broward County we have worked to alleviate traffic congestion on Pines Blvd and Miramar Parkway. The residents of South Broward will benefit tremendously as a result of this collaboration. I want to also give a special thank you to FDOT and their teams for completing this project 4 months early.

As part of this project, I was able to obtain additional funding to install the traffic light infrastructure and additional road enhancements at Silver Shores Blvd and Pembroke Road, which was completed. Now the City of Miramar can complete the installation of the Traffic Signals.

I also obtained the funding necessary to install the new Signal Lights at Dykes Road and SW 29th Street. The County has officially signalized the traffic signals and the entire installation was completed earlier than anticipated and traffic is flowing smoothly. Broward County paid for this initiative to alleviate the traffic congestion and this is another win for the Residents of Miramar.

On October 27, 2016, our Broward County staff held a Public Information meeting at the Sunset Lakes Community Center to update Residents on the Pembroke Road Expansion Project. The proposed improvements include reconstruction of the 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided roadway including bicycle lanes, sidewalks, drainage improvements, signing, pavement markings, signalization, landscaping, and lighting work from Pembroke Road to US 27. This is a huge project that is definitely needed to continue to move our Cities forward and to continue to ease the traffic congestion on Pines Blvd and Miramar Pkwy.

This is why I love my job as District 8 Broward County Commissioner. I can drive through not only my District but the County and see the many results of my efforts. I also want to thank our County Administrator Bertha Henry and Staff for their continued support.
