Mr. Lopez operated as a Community Involvement Specialist for the Broward Sheriff Office for over a decade, working with diverse communities throughout Broward County, forming strong, long-lasting partnerships with communities and business leaders.
Mr. Lopez served as the president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce of Broward County (LCCB) since 1997, where he greatly expanded the visibility and effectiveness of LCCB and developed mutually beneficial partnerships with businesses and municipalities throughout Broward County. The LCCB's membership grew from 200 to 400 members and the corporate program partnerships increased from three to thirty during his 16 years as President of LCCB.
Mr. Lopez was a board member of numerous community organizations and associations throughout Broward County. He was a founding member of the City of Hollywood Hispanic Affairs Council and served for 20 years as the president of the Hollywood Beach Latin Festival, an annual family-oriented event attended by nearly 40,000 people. Mr. Lopez was also a founding member of the Latin Builders Association of Broward County.
In 2000, Bob Crawford, Commissioner, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, named Mr. Lopez to the Florida Division of Consumer Services Council. The Council serves as the “watchdog” for consumers in the state of Florida. In appreciation of his accomplishments and community involvement the City of Hollywood, in 2004, proclaimed August 16 as Mr. Jose “Pepe” Lopez Day. He continues to be extremely involved with the promotion and success of the Hispanic and Caribbean Community in Broward County.
