FLEET MANAGEMENT SUPERINTENDENT

NATURE OF WORK

This is supervisory and administrative work in the County Fleet Management Section, including the data processing, logistics,, and financial management functions.

Work involves directing the County's fleet management activities, including the systematic replacement, automated fuel data, and fuel management programs. Work also involves reviewing organizational performance and productivity, and assisting in the development of computer hardware and software applications. Work of this class is performed with considerable independence and initiative in accomplishing program objectives. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and general observation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans and directs the activities of fleet management programs; coordinates work projects and establishes priorities.

Supervises subordinate personnel engaged in fleet management activities.

Assists in preparation of the budget and prepares periodic and special reports as required.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of fleet management practices and procedures.

Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of equipment management, budgeting, purchasing and management information systems.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the work of subordinates.

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive case histories.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in business or public administration, computer science or closely related; considerable experience in fleet management or data processing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
