NATURE OF WORK
This is manual and clerical work providing courier service.
Work involves responsibility for the opening, sorting, arranging, routing, and delivering of mail, packages, office supplies, and materials utilizing a light truck, van or automobile.
Work requires the performance of various manual and clerical assignments which require the application of independent judgement and the interpretation of routine policies and regulations on the basis of training or knowledge gained through experience on the job.
Work is reviewed by a superior through observation of work activities, task completion, and efficiency of operation procedures.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Opens, sorts, arranges, routes and delivers mail, office supplies, and other materials; prepares packages for pick up, tracking and call tags for various carriers.
Operates a van to deliver trade show materials, tourism brochures and promotional materials to sales departments at participating hotels or attractions; delivers and pick-ups for various county officials, divisions, hotels, attractions, distribution house, and advertising agencies.
Interacts daily with distribution house to monitor deliveries for trade shows, promotional mailing and any special service needs.
Counts and verifies all materials received; conducts weekly inventory of promotional items in house and at the warehouse; prepare monthly inventory reports.
Performs maintenance checks on delivery vehicle; keeps records of maintenance checks.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on office equipment and if needed, calls for repair.
May be required to lift packages weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally to lift packages in excess of 50 pounds.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of existing postal rates and mailing procedures.
Knowledge of defensive driving methods and techniques.
Knowledge of the road network and geography of Broward County.
Ability to readily perform assigned tasks and to adhere to established procedures.
Ability to make standard decisions in accordance with procedures and regulations and to apply these to work problems.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations accurately with reasonable speed.
Ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the operation of an automotive vehicle, forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
Physical strength and ability to perform assigned task.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school; experience in general office and clerical work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid Florida Class D Drivers License.
