NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled technical drafting work in the preparation of maps, plats, roadway alignment and various graphic materials.
Work involves responsibility for performing moderately complex to difficult drafting of an engineering, planning or project management nature, including mathematical computations associated with drafting. Work requires the application of knowledge of a limited technical area of engineering, planning, construction management or a related field. Work involves the use of computer aided drafting software, standard mechanical drawing instruments, office machines and legal descriptions necessary for the preparation of various graphic materials. Assignments are received from a technical or professional superior and may be accompanied by oral or written instructions. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy in progress and upon completion.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Prepares moderately complex to complex engineering drawings, manually and or using specialized drafting computer software; prepares preliminary and final plans for construction projects.
Prepares zoning and land use maps to scale using legal descriptions, metes and bounds, ownership information and various legal instruments pertaining to variances, restrictions and closures; plots angles and closures, draws curvilinear and irregular features.
Researches information to be plotted from various legal records pertaining to land title, atlas records and official documents.
Prepares and maintains various maps, drawings and charts; assembles various graphic displays.
Makes revisions in ink to copies of official section maps; prepares new section maps indicating subdivision location, right-of-way dedications, utility easements and similar regulatory features.
Performs file and directory maintenance.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the standard terminology, techniques and practices of drafting.
Knowledge of the basic principles and concepts of public planning, engineering or construction management.
Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry and plane geometry.
Knowledge of drafting and design nomenclature and symbols.
Some knowledge of computer assisted drafting and design.
Ability to prepare moderately complex to complex engineering drawings neatly and accurately.
Ability to make moderately complex mathematical computations accurately.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and sketches.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in the use and care of mechanical drawing instruments, computers and related equipment.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by course work in manual and computer assisted drafting; experience in drafting work, including some experience in computer assisted drafting and design; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
