NATURE OF WORK
This is a para-professional position supporting Extension Agents in the delivery of extension education programs throughout Broward County.
The work involves a variety of tasks such as preparing, maintaining and distributing educational literature and program materials. Supervision is received from a professional supervisor who reviews work for conformity with established policies and procedures.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Establishes and maintains educational contacts throughout Broward County.
Prepares, maintains, and distributes educational literature and program materials.
Attends meetings and assists with educational programs/presentations to organizations and individuals in the community.
Assists volunteers by providing materials and explaining enrollment procedures, providing educational program materials, and attending and facilitating meetings.
Participates in appropriate staff development opportunities.
Completes monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports to accurately reflect program area progress.
Frequently travels throughout the county utilizing their personal motor vehicle to assist with programs.
May occasionally travel out of county, and on overnight trips in support of program activities.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of basic nutrition, child development, family finance or horticulture as appropriate to area of assignment.
Knowledge of services offered by the Extension Service and other local agencies.
Ability to organize people and other resources to accomplish goals.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the use of a personal computer to input and retrieve information.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or equivalent recognized certification supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years college work in appropriate field (i.e. nutrition, child development, family finance, horticulture, etc.) or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
