Water Advisory Board

Purpose

Advise and make recommendations to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in matters relating to the development, use and management of water resources within Broward County which may include, but are not limited to, water supply, water conservation, ground water recharge, reuse of wastewater effluent, and stormwater management.

Created By

Broward County Resolution #1984-0855 created an Ad Hoc Committee called the Broward County Water Resources Advisory Committee.

Amended by Ordinance #84-40, enacted May 17, 1984, creating the Water Supply Advisory Board; providing that the present members of the Ad Hoc Broward County Water Resources Advisory Committee shall be the initial members of this board.

Amended by Ordinance #92-27, enacted September 8, 1992, abolishing the Broward County Water Resources Advisory Board; reassigning the duties and functions to the Broward County Water Advisory Board.

Amended by Resolution #1992-1404, adopted September 8, 1992, abolishing the Water Resources Advisory Committee, the Broward County Areawide Clean Water Advisory Group Subcommittee, and the Broward County Water Conservation Advisory Subcommittee; reassigning their duties and functions to the Water Advisory Board.

Amended by Ordinance #2001-06, enacted February 13, 2001, decreasing the membership from thirteen to ten.

Amended by Ordinance #2003-17, enacted May 13, 2003, increasing the number of members from ten (10) to eleven (11) by adding the Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Water Advisory Board to improve the ability of the Board to reach a quorum.

Amended by Ordinance #2005-02, enacted January 11, 2005, providing that members are now exempt from the automatic removal provisions of Section 1-233(f) which requires removal of a member who has three consecutive absences or misses four meetings in one calendar year.

Amended by Ordinance #2009-33, enacted June 9, 2009, providing for a term for appointment of an at-large member, and renaming the Division.

Membership

Twelve (12) members.

(1) Two members of and appointed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

(2) One lay person, appointed at large, by the Broward County Commission.

(3) Five City Commissioners who are members of and appointed by the Broward League of Cities.

(4) One member of and appointed by the Governing Board of the South Florida Water Management District.

(5) One member of and appointed by the South Florida Regional Planning Council.

(6) The Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Water Advisory Board.

(7) One representative of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Alliance.

Terms

Section 1-233 of Chapter 1, Article XII, Broward County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from time to time.

The term of the at-large members shall be four (4) years.

Members are exempt from Section 1-233(f), the automatic removal of a member who has three consecutive absences or misses four meetings in one calendar year.

Quorum

A majority of the total appointed board members.
