Broward County Libraries Division and Broward County Historical Commission Honored Pioneers At 2011 Pioneer Day

Since 1973, the Broward County Historical Commission has sponsored an annual event honoring Broward County pioneers. This 39th Annual Pioneer Day Event was held on December 3, 2011. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Broward County Historical Commission joined the City of Fort Lauderdale in co-sponsoring this event. The co-hosts graciously consented to hold the ceremony on the grounds of the Fort Lauderdale History Center, 231 S.W. 2nd Avenue, in Fort Lauderdale overlooking the beautiful New River. As Fort Lauderdale celebrates its Centennial, this year, in particular, presented a wonderful opportunity to highlight our shared history and honor Broward County’s local pioneers. The public was welcome at this free event.

The Broward County Historical Commission is pleased to announce that 32 men and women have been selected as Broward County Pioneers. They joined a distinguished group of almost 2,000 other Pioneers the Commission has honored since the beginning of the program. The following is the list of those individuals who will be recognized and the historical group or municipalities who have selected them for this honor. Program available for download.
