The Imperial Point Branch Library opened in 1988. About one year later nearby residents formed the Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library. One of their early endeavors was to support the creation of a literacy lab. The literacy lab is still in existence with literacy materials and state of the art technology to serve Each One Teach One tutors and their students. Throughout twenty-five years of supporting the Library they have enhanced library services for the citizens who frequent the Imperial Point Branch Library.

The group supports special events for children and adults. To make the Library a special place for children they sponsor programs featuring magicians, storytellers, and musicians. The Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library provide craft materials for youth service programs, enhancements for the storytime room and books for the children’s and teen’s collection. Knowing how important it is for each child to have books they can call their own, each summer the Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library buy books to give to each child and teen who sign up for the summer reading program. The Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library provide funds for branch equipment, material for the collection and prizes for the adult summer reading program. They support and enhance adult programs with supplies and refreshments.

The Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library maintain a Friends Corner where donated books in very good condition are sold. This is the cornerstone of their fund raising efforts. In addition to the Friends Corner an annual “Big Sale” is held featuring DVDs, books on CD, books signed by the author and coffee table books.

The Friends of the Imperial Point Library are always eager to include new members in their activities. For more information about the Friends of the Imperial Point Branch Library, please call 954-357-6530.
