Transportation

  • National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award – to Port Everglades Department, for partnering with Seafarers’ House to develop a Transportation Work Identification Credential – an escorted transportation service that benefits the mariners and local business community. Seafarers’ House escorted and provided transportation to more than 32,000 crew members.
Environmental Protection
  • 2012 Clean Air Excellence Award – to Pollution Prevention, Remediation and Air Quality Division, for educational outreach of the Conservation and Climate Change (C3) Challenge, a competition that engages students, teachers, school administrators, staff and parents in practical strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
  • National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award – to Port Everglades Department, for replacing heavy equipment and services vehicles and repowering pilot boats with clean diesel technology, which translated into a $17 million environmental health and benefit to the community.
  • National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award – to Water and Wastewater Services for the “NO Frog. NO Clog.” campaign to educate the public on the proper disposal of fats, rags, oil and grease (FROG). The campaign resulted in a 17 percent reduction in the time and labor spent on “deragging” water pump stations.

Conservation Pays

  • Broward Water partnershipNational Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award – to Natural Resources and Planning Management Division, for the Conservation Pay$ Water Partnership, a collaborative effort between the County and 17 municipal and water service providers aimed at saving 30 million gallons of water per day over the next five years.
     
Culture, Learning and Recreation
  • “Best Tourist Activity” Award – to Parks and Recreation’s Everglades Holiday Park and Airboat Tour, from the New Times Broward/Palm Beach.

Nacio Awards

  • “Best Public Library Website” Award – to Libraries Division, from Florida Library Association Library, for BCL WOW (Broward County Library Without Walls), a redesigned website that provides easier access to enhanced online and electronic resources. An innovative marketing campaign and mobile app contributed to the award.
  • “Best Kayaking” Award – to Parks and Recreation’s West Lake Park, from the New Times Broward/Palm Beach.
  • National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) Excellence Award – to the Cultural Division, for their redesigned website, which features resources for artists and information on cultural organizations, funding, public art, arts education, workshops and events.
