What Happens at the Waste-to-Energy plant? Garbage from Broward County homes is dumped from garbage trucks onto a large tipping or receiving floor. Two large cranes pick up the garbage in batches. The garbage is lifted into a chute or shaft that feeds directly into an incinerator. As the garbage is burned, the steam creates energy that powers turbine generators, which generate electricity.
