Beach Sweep Cleanups

Beach Sweeps are coordinated by "Keep Broward Beautiful" and local community partner agencies.

Guidelines for Beach Cleanup Participants

Volunteers must wear proper cleanup attire:
T-shirt and shorts are acceptable. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes. No flip-flops. Volunteers wearing flip-flops will not be allowed to participate. With the South Florida heat, it is recommended that volunteers wear a hat and sunscreen, and bring their own water. It is also a good idea to bring a snack.

Minimum age to volunteer is eight (8), and an adult must accompany minors.

Safety and Equipment
Keep Broward Beautiful will provide trash bags and gloves. Staff will conduct a short safety meeting with cleanup directions prior to the cleanup on the day of the event.

Parking
Volunteers should park and meet at the Adopt-A-Street van or banner near the volunteer meeting area. Carpooling is highly recommended. Not only is it good for the environment, but parking on the beach is limited. We cannot guarantee free parking for all volunteers.

For questions and registration, please call the Litter Hotline at 954-765-4999, or email Litterprevention@broward.org.

Marine Debris
Marine debris is often the result of deliberate or accidental actions by people on land or at sea. For example, uncovered trash bins, litter, debris left in streets and on beaches, and items thrown overboard can all become marine debris. Items can travel far before landing on shorelines or settling in the ocean. Marine debris can come from anywhere-it can be carried by rivers, streams, and other waterways into the ocean. Here are some helpful links to help you better understand marine debris.
