Feral Cats

Feral cats are located in every neighborhood in Broward County and it is estimated that there are more than 300,000 ferals who live and eat among us every day.

What exactly is a feral cat?

A feral cat is a cat that was born outside and is not used to interacting with humans. Feral cats live in groups called “colonies.” They set up household in backyards, wooded areas and just about any space where there is a source of food and available shelter from the sun and rain. They live off of food scraps found in the garbage, small prey, or handouts from their human neighbors.

Studies show that sterilizing feral cats is the first line of defense in keeping populations down since a typical female feral cat can give birth to hundreds of kittens in her lifetime. By getting them fixed, our community can greatly help to control their numbers so they can thrive and age out naturally.

Broward County Animal Care and Regulation is dedicated to controlling the feral cat population, while caring for those who currently thrive among us. Your donation will help support our spay/neuter efforts and provide care for feral colonies throughout the County.
