  Description
The sculptures are mounted on semi-circular arches of the facade over each bay where the equipment is kept.  There are four designs that are repeated in different sequences on each of the four buildings.  Each arch features a shield medallion that is unique to its station.

The arches are created by fabricating hand-carved bas-relief designs, molds are made and stone cast at the fabricators.  The narrative/representational work lends itself to the building because the work is accessible to the public in general and enhances the architecture.  Cast stone is an excellent material for this project in that the images are durable and able to withstand strong temperature/weather variables.

With the input of Chief Paul Young, and his request to the firehouses for their specific input the designs would use images from fire safety/rescue heroic activities.  These include:  fire hats/clothing, badges, hoses, fire trucks, ladders, axes, flashlights, oxygen tanks, etc.  Also included are symbolic fire equipment shield images surrounded by the flora and fauna native to Broward County.  These also include the state flower, bird, tree, animal, fish, etc.

  Artist Statement
"Our desire is to enhance the buildings, as we have done in the our past commissions, by using the already planned architectural elements.  We worked closely with the design team in all aspects of our fabrication and installation.  With our narrative sculpture we hope to enhance the visual impact of the building for both daily users and visitors as well, and to give the community a sense of pride."
