Port
Everglades Receives International Recognition
Seatrade Insider, one of
the world’s foremost cruise industry trade
publications, named Port Everglades “Port of the
Year.” The accolade is awarded to a port that has
made significant improvements to its handling
facilities and cruise-tourism infrastructure over
the past 12 months. Port Everglades partnered with
Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) to build a modern
240,000-square-foot facility, Cruise Terminal 18,
the largest single cruise ship terminal in the world
and home of RCL’s Oasis of the Seas and
Allure of the Seas. Cruise Terminal 18’s
expansive design for these Oasis-class ships
simultaneously allows arriving guests to check-in
for boarding while disembarking guests are gathering
their luggage and being processed by U.S. Customs
and Border Protection. |

Historical
Commission Exhibit Focuses on World War II
The
Broward County Historical Commission, located at 301 S.W.
13th Ave., in Fort Lauderdale, has mounted an exhibit
focusing on the activities in Broward County during World
War II. The free exhibit is open to the public, 9 a.m. to 4

war effort profoundly altered Broward County, transforming

stationed here decided to make it their permanent home. For
more information, call 954-357-5513.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree and Help
the Environment
The Parks and Recreation
Division’s annual Chip-A-Tree initiative begins Sunday,
December 26, and will continue through Sunday, January 23.
Last year the Division recycled 9,225 trees, representing
115 tons of material that would otherwise have gone to
landfills, and this year your tree can join those recyclable
thousands. The free program encourages Broward County
residents to remove all decorations from their Christmas
trees (no decorated trees will be accepted), then bring the
trees to a participating park, where they are chipped and
used for landscaping throughout the County park system.
There is a limit of two trees per vehicle, artificial trees
are not accepted, and no commercial vehicles or garbage
trucks are allowed. Thirteen Broward County parks are
participating in the Chip-A-Tree program. For further
information, call the Parks and Recreation Division at
954-357-8177 or visit
www.broward.org.
