New County Commission District Map Approved
Broward County Commissioners
approved a new Broward County Commission district
map at the public hearing held December 13. The
new map is based upon the recently released 2010
Census data. The County is divided into nine single
member districts. Redistricting is required by
Section 2.01 A. of the Broward County Charter to
balance the populations of the districts and ensure
residents have equal representation on the County
Commission.
Recycle Your Christmas Tree at 14 County Parks
The Parks and Recreation
Division’s annual Chip-A-Tree initiative continues
through Sunday, January 22. Last year the Division
recycled more than 9,000 Christmas trees
representing more than 100 tons of material that
would otherwise have gone to landfills. Residents
are encouraged to help the environment by removing
all decorations from their trees (no decorated trees
will be accepted) and bringing them to a
participating park, where they are chipped free of
charge and used for landscaping throughout the
County park system. There is a limit of two trees
per vehicle, artificial trees are not accepted, and
no commercial vehicles or garbage trucks are allowed.

County Commission Approves Art Wraps
on Traffic Signal Cabinets
Those rather bland
looking traffic signal cabinets visible at many
intersections may soon be turned into pieces of art. Broward
County Commissioners have given the go-ahead for cities and
other governmental entities to art wrap the County-owned
utility boxes as long as there is no cost to the County. The
initial request came from the Fort Lauderdale Downtown
Development Association, which plans to decorate the traffic
signal cabinets in conjunction with the city’s Centennial
Celebration.
