Go SOLAR Florida Receives Grant to Increase Use of Solar Energy

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the Go SOLAR – Florida team a $1.6 million SunShot Initiative Rooftop Solar Challenge II competitive award to make it easier for Floridians to obtain grid-tied solar installations. Go SOLAR Florida is one of eight recipients nationwide to receive the grant, which will be used over the next two and a half years to increase the use of and access to solar energy among residents and businesses by reducing market barriers, lowering non-hardware related installation costs and providing access to financing options.


Commission Establishes Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Program in Broward

PACE program to offer financing options for residents interested in energy efficiency retrofitting

The Broward County Commission voted on October 8, 2013 to establish a commercial and residential Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Program that will provide financing options to help defray the upfront costs associated with solar energy installations. Previously, residents interested in saving energy by installing solar panels or replacing air conditioners had to have money in hand to perform these retrofits. PACE programs allow property owners to pay for the cost of energy improvements and wind mitigation measures to their homes or businesses through a voluntary assessment on their property tax bill. This assessment stays with the property when it is sold since the new owner continues to receive the benefit and cost savings of the improvements. More...


Solar Permits Are Just a Click Away!

A solar permitting process that previously took weeks to accomplish is now just a click away, thanks to the new Go SOLAR Online Permitting System, made possible by the Go SOLAR Broward Rooftop Solar Challenge. The new online permitting system is a U.S. Department of Energy grant-funded program that makes it easier for Broward County residents and businesses to convert to solar energy by reducing the cost and wait time associated with the permitting process for installing photovoltaic (PV) rooftop solar systems.
