Historical Commission Has a New Home
The Broward County Historical Commission, long housed on the second floor of a nondescript building attached to a parking garage, recently moved into its new headquarters in the historic West Side Grade School, located at 301 S.W. 13th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. The West Side School was designed in 1923 by locally prominent architect Morris Peterman and was built the same year by contractor Cayot and Hart.

About Us
The Broward County Historical Commission was created by ordinance in 1972 to encourage awareness of local history and to preserve the artifacts of our heritage. The nineteen member board is assisted by a small staff and a small group of dedicated volunteers. The scope of activities encompasses such topics as land and marine archaeology, historic properties, oral history, publications and civic programs. The Commission provides research and archive facilities, and co-sponsors an annual "Pioneer Days" event. Additionally, it publishes the Broward Legacy Historical Journal, which is available in print (individual copies or subscriptions for sale at our office). It also can be read online via the FAU Special Collections link to the right.
The Historical Commission usually meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month.
