GASOLINE
Many Broward residents have portable generators to provide power after a storm. That means transporting and storing gasoline for generators is an important consideration. Here are some handy tips to consider when using gasoline:
-
Don't siphon gasoline from a container by using your mouth. You could accidently ingest the fuel, causing damage to the esophagus or stomach. Gasoline fumes can damage your lungs.
-
To remove gasoline from a car, lawn mower or boat, use a siphon pump. Many home improvement and marine supply stores will sell hand pumps that can do the job.
-
If you need to store gasoline before a storm, don't store it inside your home or garage. Place it outside, away from the sun. Use a rope to tie the storage containers together.
-
When storing gas, consider using a gas preservative in each container to help stabilize the fuel.
