Why use a database?

Search engines are fast and easy, but the information may not always be accurate. The best way to gather information for your research is through the free online resources or databases offered by your library. Broward County Library pays the subscription fees, so you can have free access to excellent sources of information.

But which free online resources or databases should I use or what should I ask?

Sample questions to help you use our databases.

If you are not sure how to begin to use databases, check out our lists of sample questions to help you ask the right questions. Click here to view a list of sample database questions.

If you are in graduate school or work with a lot of research, you may want to download Zotero.  It is an additional tool that can help you organize citations, create an online library for all of your .pdf files, images, and Web site pages, add helpful notes about your research, and organize research with specific tags.  Click here to access the Zotero Web site for more information.
