Marching to a Different Drum

High School Students Plant Slash Pines in Markham Park

On Monday, February 16, 2009, about 40 marching band students from Taravella High School came to Markham Park to plant trees.  They planted almost 1,000 trees in the park's primitive camping area.  The students were enthusiastic and worked from 8:30 a.m. to noon.  Thanks Taravella students!

Teachers joined the planting effort.  Students worked easily together to make the environment greener.
Mark Torek, Division of Forestry, got involved with students and teachers.  Julie Brown (left) Markham Park's Nursery Supervisor came out to help the students.
Students had to dig with shovels to make holes for the trees.  Volunteers stop their work to pose for a photograph.
