Tall Cypress Natural Area

 

 

Size: 66 acres


Habitat:   Last remaining stands of basin swamp and pine flatwoods.


Petal from a pond apple treeVegetation:   Dense canopy of cypress trees transitioning to slash pines, interspersed with saw palmetto thickets, willow and pond apple stands, with sabal palm, red maple, swamp lily, strangler fig, sword and leather ferns, soft-leaved wild coffee, and beautyberry.


Wildlife:   Great horned owl, red-bellied and pileated woodpeckers, great egret, little blue heron; white peacock, malachite, gulf fritillary and Julia butterflies; and box turtles.


Amenities:  2090 feet of boardwalk, covered overlooks, concrete trail, and interpretive signage.
