SOFIA - Welcome! Tthe South Florida Information Access (SOFIA) Website (formerly the "South Florida Ecosystem Program"). South Florida is one of several study areas within the USGS Place-Based Science Program. This Program was established to enable the USGS to enhance its scientific assistance to resource managers who require an improved scientific information base to resolve or prevent complex resource conflicts or environmental problems in specific ecosystem sites. http://www.epa.gov/OST/BASINS/ The U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys water programs and their counterparts in states and pollution control agencies are increasingly emphasizing watershed and water quality-based assessment and integrated analysis of point and nonpoint sources. Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS) is a system developed to meet the needs of such agencies. It integrates a geographic information system (GIS), national watershed data, and state-of-the-art environmental assessment and modeling tools into one convenient package. WATERSHEDSS, Water Quality Decision Support System - NCSU WQL WATERSHEDSS, About the Program - NCSU WQG Center forResearch inWaterResources The Center for Research in Water Resources (CRWR) of the University of Texas at Austin, and the Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) have established a Consortium for developing and implementing new Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities in Water Resources. The initial focus of the consortium is on design of a new GeoDatabase Model for Rivers and Watersheds for ArcInfo version 8. The consortium is headed by Dr. David R. Maidment, Director of CRWR, and supported by software development staff at ESRI. Interested organizations and individuals are invited to join the consortium.
