Residential Treatment Services

The Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC) Residential Treatment Services (RTS) serves adult men and women. Services are provided in a 92-bed, dormitory-style setting in Coral Springs, Florida. Services are individualized to suit each person's needs, generally lasting 60 days. All participants are monitored by clinical and medical staff.

The 60-day stay program is divided into two phases:

  • Phase I (First 30 days): Clients begin the stabilization process. Skills necessary to prevent relapse, to understand precipitating factors to their substance use, and to manage cravings will be introduced and developed. Further instruction is initiated to build job readiness, computer skills, and commence linkages within the community.
  • Phase II (Second 30 days): Clients will engage in community 12-step programs, family support, strengthen family involvement, fine-tune their relapse prevention skills, and solidify their discharge plans for continued recovery in the community.

Other components at RTS include:

  • Intensive Family Involvement Program
    • Clients will strengthen their family units and promote healthy recovery and support with family members before discharge. This involves family counseling, interactive clinical exercises, and interventions with clients and their families while in treatment.
    • 4-6 hour passes with supportive family members to attend community support groups.

  • Job Readiness Program
    • Clients will develop job readiness skills and be prepared for employment enhancement and stability upon discharge. This will be accomplished by clients attending job fairs, job skills workshops, and interviews.
    • Clients will be connected to community vocational programs to develop vocational and educational opportunities (e.g. Atlantic Technical College).
    • Clients will learn résumé writing, engage in online job searches, and increase computer literacy skills to enhance job-seeking opportunities.

  • Perinatal Addiction Program (PAP)
    • For pregnant women, this program extends through the delivery of a healthy, non-substance-exposed baby and includes a 60-day treatment program for non-pregnant women with children aged 7 and under.
