WHAT IS NET ZERO?
Net Zero refers to the balance of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced and removed from the atmosphere. The goal is to significantly reduce emissions and adopt solutions to absorb carbon dioxide, creating a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
GHG emissions stem from various activities, including the use of coal, oil, and gas for energy. In Broward County, major sources include gasoline and diesel used in transportation, non-renewable electricity powering buildings, and emissions from waste processing and storage in landfills.
Achieving Net Zero requires a collaborative effort from all sectors—public and private. The Broward County Net-Zero Plan offers a roadmap for building partnerships and implementing projects to lower emissions and address climate change.
OUR PURPOSE
The Broward County Net-Zero Plan will outline a comprehensive strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, using 2019 levels as a baseline. This initiative supports Broward County’s ongoing commitment to climate action, sustainability, and resilience.
