Records, Taxes and Treasury Division is responsible for the collection of ad valorem taxes and other taxes set at the local level, including those by special levying districts, state agencies and County Commission. Records, Taxes and Treasury Division also acts as an agent of several state departments, including the Department of Revenue, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
For the Taxing Authorities, Records, Taxes and Treasury Division bills and collects real and personal property taxes. The amount of the tax is based on the assessed value of the property and the millage rate, which is set by various taxing authorities.
As an agent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Records, Taxes and Treasury Division issues state motor vehicle license plates and parking placards and processes applications for titles on automobiles, trucks, mobile homes and boats.
Tourist Development Tax Section is responsible for the administration, collection, audit and enforcement of the Tourist Development Tax on transient rental accommodations. Transient rental accommodations are defined as hotels, apartment hotels, resort motels, rooming houses, mobile home parks, single family dwellings, beach houses, cottages, condominiums or any other sleeping accommodations rented for a period of six months or less.
In addition, Records, Taxes and Treasury Division also sells hunting and fishing licenses, serves the County as its agent for the administration and collection of Local Business Taxes.
