Broward County Animal Care is proud to offer two powerful tools to help protect and identify your dog or cat:
1. Broward County Rabies Registration Tag
A current Rabies Registration Tag on a secure collar serves three important purposes:
- The tag is a visible form of identification. It lets residents know that your pet belongs to someone.
- The license number on your pet’s tag leads back to your contact information in our database. This way, you can be contacted if your pet is found by us or a fellow resident.
- Your pet will qualify for a “Free Ride Home” if he becomes lost from home for the first time and is wearing a current Broward County Rabies Registration tag when he is found. The impound fees and citations will be waived for your pet.
2. Microchips
Broward County Animal Care has partnered with Smart Tag for our microchip services. All pets adopted through Broward County Animal Care are microchipped with a Smart Tag chip.
A microchip is a permanent form of identification. A small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) is inserted in between the shoulder blades of your dog or cat. If your pet becomes lost from home, a shelter or veterinary office can scan the pet to locate the microchip number.
The key to protecting your pet is to register the chip number. The Smart Tag registry offers a 24/7, online service that allows you to register ANY BRAND of microchip for FREE.
Your pet will qualify for a “Free Ride Home” if he becomes lost from home for the first time and has a microchip with current registration information when he is found. The impound fees and citations will be waived for your pet.
Does your pet need a microchip? Microchips, with FREE registration, are available for sale at our Pet Care Clinic.
