​​​​​​​​​The Environmental Assessment and Remediation (EAR) Section regulates the majority of the 1,000+ contaminated sites in Broward County. Our goal is to identify, assess, and clean up soil and groundwater contamination while protecting human health and the environment.

The EAR Section manages:

• Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) state-funded programs for the assessment and clean-up of petroleum contamination from storage tank systems. 
• Licensing, assessment, and remediation of non-funded sites with petroleum, dry cleaning solvent, and other chemical contamination.  
• Sites that have a Brownfield Site Rehabilitation Agreement (BSRA) with Broward County.  Brownfield sites are abandoned or underutilized industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is complicated by actual or perceived environmental contamination.
