Black History Month
February 1-28
Commemorate Black History Month
with events and activities that recognize and explore the achievements of Black Americans and their contributions to the creation and growth of the United States of America. Listen, learn and share your thoughts about African American culture and experiences. Events include storytimes, lectures, films, book discussions and performances. All events are free and open to the public.
In addition to the schedule of Black History Month programs, you can visit our online collections and resources such as Broward County's African American Research Library and Cultural Center Special Collections, which contains over one million items including rare books, artwork, artifacts, reference materials, photographs, oral histories and ephemera. Featured collections include the Black Broward Oral History Project, the Love-Thornell Collection of Black American Photographs and Virtual AARLCC which offers views of 3D models of African masks, carvings, figurines and other unique artifacts.
