Population and Forecasts
Broward County and Municipal PFAM 2024 Report

Review the final report of the Broward County and Municipal Population Forecast and Allocation Model for 2024.

This effort by the Broward County Urban Planning Division (UPD) is an update of the Population Forecast and Allocation Model (PFAM) initially developed in 2012.PFAM is updated every three to five years to allocate the most recent countywide population estimate to each of the municipalities based on local development patterns. This allocation is then modified for future years based on anticipated changes to development patterns.

2024 PFAM Traffic Analysis Zones by Municipality

The Population Forecast and Allocation Model (PFAM) Interactive Application is a mapping application that allows users to view the results of the 2024 PFAM report by Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZ) within each municipality in Broward County.

PFAM 2024 displays projections of population, households, and dwelling units by TAZ. This application displays those projections on an interactive map. Users can then filter the data by municipal boundaries and view the TAZs that comprise a specific municipality.

  • 2010 & 2020 Decennial Census Count - The 2020 Census is one of the decennial censuses conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The decennial census is constitutionally mandated and is conducted to determine an official count of the people living in the United States.  The data collected is used to reapportion seats in the House of Representatives, to realign congressional districts, and as a factor in the formulas that distribute hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds each year.  For more information go to:
  • 2023 ACS Estimate - The American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year Population Estimate is a U.S. Census Bureau product. 60 months of data is collected and used to generate estimates to provide communities with updated information. The survey is sent to a limited number of people in each community; therefore, it is only a representative estimate. For more information go to:
  • 2024 BEBR Estimate - University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) is an official source of Florida statewide demographic data that annually produces estimates and 30-year projections used for state-revenue sharing and other local budgeting purposes. Annual estimates are provided at a county and municipal level. For more information go to:

*ACS estimates can significantly differ from the decennial census because they are calculated using a 5-year collection period where boundary changes and new construction may have occurred. The ACS can be interpreted as a "moving average" where the Census serves as a precise snapshot in time.
**BEBR estimates for BMSD (unincorporated) include Seminole Tribal Land population estimates.

Note: "-" means that the data source is not collected at a geographic level in which the population can be tabulated for the indicated geographies. As a result, the countywide population total differs from the sum of the listed geographies, leaving a remainder that cannot be accurately allocated.
