The Resilience Unit is charged with leading planning efforts and steering projects to urgently mitigate climate change and its impacts, including measures to advance clean energy solutions, address the local impacts of sea level rise, reduce emissions, and protect against economic inequities.

Resilience Unit strategies include modeling vulnerabilities and analyzing risks, thoughtful planning, informing sound public policies, convening support through stakeholder involvement and regional relationships; and implementing projects and economic investments.

Future Conditions
The predicted impacts of sea level rise, rainfall intensification, temperature, and groundwater table.

Climate, Heat & Energy
Net zero, electric vehicle and solar initiatives.

Beach Renourishment
Protecting coastal resources, and management of shoreline protection projects.

Water Resources
Evaluating and planning for the impacts climate change on water management operations, led by the Water Advisory Board  (WAB) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

The Resilience Unit developments county-wide strategies to address flood and heat mitigation needs across the Broward landscape, with a focus on water management infrastructure, transportation systems, critical infrastructure, redevelopment, and land use.

Current projects include:

Net Zero Plan
A comprehensive strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Vulnerability Assessments
Working towards resilient coastal communities.

EV Charging Infrastructure
Developing an Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) Plan.

Watershed Masterplan
Addressing flood mitigation and storm water management, advancing green infrastructure strategies that address water quality and quantity concerns.

USGS Variable Density
In collaboration with the USGS, the Resilience Unit has been developing variable density models to help better manage saltwater intrusion into drinking water supplies.

A two-year county-wide resilience planning effort focused on building community resilience to the impacts of climate change with a primary focus on flood and heat mitigation.

Environmental resources and in-progress projects to fight the effects of climate change. Search through tabs about clean energy, beach renourishment, solar power and projects happening in specific cities across Broward.

Future Conditions Planning
Using science to develop models and provide data to update design requirements for land use decisions, accounting  future changes in sea levels, rainfall, saturated soil, and land use.

South Florida Regional Climate Change Compact

The internationally recognized Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact was created in 2010 by Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties.

2025 Climate Summit
The Annual Climate Leadership Summit is a major regional event to share knowledge, showcase climate action, engage leadership across sectors.

Regional Climate Change Action Plan
A voluntary framework designed to align, guide and support the acceleration of local regional climate action in Southeast Florida.
