2024 Awards of Excellen​ce

​​​​​​​The National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO), an affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo) with members from more than 3,000 counties, parishes and boroughs across the United States, hosts its annual Awards of Excellence to recognize excellence in public information and community outreach efforts by local governments in a variety of categories including: Annual Reports, Audiovisua​l Productions, Brochures, Community Engagement, Electronic Communications, Graphic Design, Publications, Social Media and Writing.

Broward County received 29 NACIO Awards of Excellence in the 2024 competition for its quality of its public information and public education outreach campaigns. Here are the winners in each category:

Best of Show

  • Broward County Aviation: Holiday Travel Advisories Public Outreach ​campaign​​​ provided valuable information to the public on minimizing congestion on FLL’s terminal roadways and reducing the potential for the airport to activate its off-site Overflow Parking Lot (s) during this busy year-end holiday season. (Campaigns – General Information category)​​

Eleven Best of Category Awards

  • Broward County Aviation (two awards): Holiday Travel Advisories Public Outreach (Campaigns – General Information category) and the
  • ​Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) Historic Flooding Communications Outreach in April 2023 responded to the needs of the impacted airport stakeholders, including displaced travelers and employees, aviation tenants and concessionaires, the surrounding community, and the media. (Campaigns – Crisis category)
  • Broward County Library (two awards): 50th Anniversary "Peace Love Libraries" campaign​ commemorated the Library Division's "golden" anniversary.(Campaign – Quality of Life - parks, libraries, environment - category) and 50th Anniversary Library Card​ (Graphic Design – Special Graphics category) 
  • Resilience Unit (two awards): Broward Resilience Newsletter provides the latest Resilience research, comme​ntary,​​​​ activities and achievements. (Printed Publications – Newsletter category) and the Beach Renourishment video showcases the shore protection methods that are implemented to retain and rebuild eroding beaches. (Audiovisual – short video under 60 seconds category)
  • Animal Care & Resilience Unit: Be Cool Rack Card - Heat Tips for Pets offers easy steps to keep your pets cool during periods of warm weather. (Printed Publications – Newsletter category) 
  • Building Code Division: “Promote the Trades" campaign raises awareness to the benefits of working in the skilled trades such as number of jobs available and competitive wages. (Writing – Best Headline/ Campaign Title category)​
  • Natural Resources Division: Elf on the Shelf social media camp​aign​ ​showed "Skipper the Elf" visiting environmental locations during the holiday season (Social Media – Multi-Platform Campaign category)​​
  • Innovation Unit & Consumer Protection Division: Innovations Unit logo​  (Graphic Design – logo category)
  • Innovation Unit & Mobility Advancement Program (MAP): 3D Animated Video of Sales Surtax Transportation Investments ​showcases innovative solutions to improve communications with traffic signals. (Audiovisual – medium length video 1-5 minutes category)

  • Resilience Unit (two awards): Broward Resilient Environment Brochure educates the public on initiatives, events, and programs provided by the Resilient Environment Department. (Printed Publications – Multi-page Education Booklet) and Extreme Heat Survey helping the Resilient Environment Department to further identify exposures and vulnerabilities, and to develop programs and strategies that safeguard the community's resilience to increasing temperatures. (Printed Publications – Short One-page/Trifold category) 
  • Urban Planning Division: Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD) Semi-Annual Report​ highlights accomplishments as well as projects underway in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD).​ (Printed publications – Annual Report category)  
  • Innovation Unit & Consumer Protection Division: Broward County Innovation Unit website ​​identifies, analyzes, and implements innovative business intellige​nce and technology solutions to effectively inform decision-making, address agency challenges, and​ provides more effective and efficient service to the residents of Broward County. ​(Electronic Communications – Websites category)
