The Risk Management Division for the Broward County Board of County Commissioners is responsible for administering the County’s self insurance program for workers’ compensation, general liability, automobile liability, and property damage claims. The safety and occupational health of county employees are also managed by Risk Management.
Broward County’s purchased insurance program consists of the procurement of some of the following types of insurances:
- Property
- Excess Workers’ Compensation
- Airport Liability
- Public Dishonesty Crime Coverage
- Port Umbrella Excess Liability Coverage
- Third Party Pollution Liability for fuel storage tanks

Our Mission is to continuously develop, manage, and improve insurance and safety/occupational health services in order to provide quality, cost-effective support to our customers and to protect the County’s financial well being. Risk Management works to fulfill its mission through the proactive use of expertly crafted insurance programs, a comprehensive safety and occupational health approach, and detailed loss control techniques.
Organization
The Risk Management Division is divided into seven (7) sections as follows: Administration, Accounting, Information Systems, Liability Claims, Risk Insurance and Contracts, Safety and Occupational Health, Workers’ Compensation Claims.
